The profound changes occurring in the African continent amid the rise of international competition

In the framework of enhancing intellectual dialogue and research coordination on geopolitical and geo-economic transformations in Africa and the Arab region, Dr. Mohamed Ali Al-Shehi, Executive Director of the Global Institute for Strategic Studies 'Jisr' and a member of Hamad Bin Khalifa University, held a consultative meeting at the institute's headquarters. The meeting included Dr. Mohamed Saleh, Executive Director of the African Center for Policy Research and Studies 'Afro Policy' Turkey, and Mr. Nouraldin Abdullah Alu, Director of the Center for Strategic Studies and Regional Integration in Addis Ababa. The meeting addressed the profound changes taking place in the African continent amid escalating international competition, and the intertwining of security and economic dimensions with governance and development pathways, in addition to the impact of regional and international crises on the stability of African countries and their regional integration processes. The participants also discussed shifts in power balances within Africa, the roles of international and regional actors, and the implications for collective security, supply chains, investment, and strategic infrastructure. The meeting served as a platform for exchanging insights on the importance of building research approaches that transcend regions, linking Africa and the Arab region, and moving From descriptive analysis to the production of policy knowledge capable of supporting decision-makers. In this context, the necessity of developing joint research programs, organizing strategic dialogues, and launching comparative study projects was emphasized, contributing to the formation of an integrated intellectual and knowledge vision that enhances economic, security, and political stability in Africa. The meeting concluded by stressing the importance of institutional partnership between the Global Institute for Strategic Studies (Jisr) and these research centers, considering it a first step toward building a strategic thinking network capable of keeping pace with rapid geopolitical transformations and making effective contributions to regional and international discussions on the future of Africa and the Arab region and its role in the changing international system.
