Professor Gerd Junne is Emeritus Professor at the University of Amsterdam, where he held the Chair in International Relations from 1982-2011. He was the founder of The Network University (TNU) and chaired its Board from 1997-2022 and served as a guest professor at New York University (2000-2002).
Logan is an Associate Professor in the College of Public Policy at HBKU. His research includes diverse geographic and disciplinary foci, covering broad thematic areas of food security, climate change, social justice and governance. For the last 15 years, he has worked in non-governmental organizations internationally, including in Afghanistan, Benin, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda. Logan has served as a director for two non-governmental organizations, and worked as a consultant with clients such as Global Affairs Canada, International Development Research Centre, Save the Children, Management Sciences for Health, the Liaison Office, UNICEF and UNAIDS.
Dr. Naser Al-Tamimi is a UK-based political economist and Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI) Senior Associate Research Fellow focused on the Gulf/Middle East region with research interests in energy and Arab/GCC – Asia/China relations. He received his Ph.D. in International Relations from the University of Durham, where his thesis focused on China’s relations with Saudi Arabia. Dr. Al-Tamimi previously worked as a journalist in the Middle East and United Kingdom, and extensively researched GCC and Middle Eastern economies. Dr. Al-Tamimi has written extensively on matters concerning Saudi Arabia, the GCC, and Middle East for both academic and popular publications, as well as several major research centers, including The Brookings Institution, European Council on Foreign Relations, Mercator Institute for China Studies (MERICS), Middle East Institute, Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI), University of Durham, Gulf Research Centre, Al Jazeera Centre for Studies, Centre for Arab Unity Studies, and Arab Centre for Research and Policy Studies. He is the author of China-Saudi Arabia Relations, 1990-2012: Marriage of Convenience or Strategic Alliance, Routledge, 2014. Professor Barakat has been published widely in academic referred journals. His book ‘After the Conflict: Reconstruction and Development in the Aftermath of War’, published by IB Tauris, was reprinted twice, in 2005 and 2010. He has also written books on the reconstruction of both Afghanistan and Iraq. His most recent book, ‘Understanding Influence: The Use of Statebuilding Research in British Policy’ was published by Ashgate in 2014. Barakat has over 30 years of professional experience working on issues of conflict resolution, humanitarian response, statebuilding and post-conflict recovery and transition. He is regularly engaged in providing guidance as a Senior Adviser and Consultant to the United Nations, the World Bank, the European Union, the Red Cross and a variety of governments. He has led major evaluations, peace negotiations and programming initiatives in Afghanistan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kosovo, Lebanon, Libya, Nepal, Palestine, Philippines (Mindanao), Somalia, Sri Lanka, Sudan (Darfur), Syria, Uganda (Moyo and Adjumani) and Yemen.
Dr. Aiman Erbad is Associate Professor and Division Head at the Information and Computing Technology Division at the College of Science and Engineering at Hamad Bin Khalifa University. He obtained his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of British Columbia, a Master of Computer Science in Embedded Systems and Robotics from the University of Essex, and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from the University of Washington, Seattle.
Dr. Antonio Sanfilippo is Chief Scientist at the Qatar Environment & Energy Research Institute (QEERI), where he leads the Energy Management Program. He has been awarded several grants from the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) and was presented with the 2020 Qatar Innovation Leadership Award by the World Innovation Congress. Under his leadership, the QEERI Energy Management team has established capabilities that have become key reference points for local and international stakeholders, including a network of solar monitoring stations and a microgrid testbed.
Dr. Erin McCandless is a seasoned scholar, policy adviser and practitioner, with nearly three decades experience working in conflict- and crisis-affected, fragile and transitional settings. Her focus lies on understanding these contexts and how processes of peacemaking, peacebuilding and transformative social change unfold and nurtured in synergistic ways towards the fostering of more just, sustainable and peaceful futures. Her current affiliations include Research Associate in the Politics Department at the University of Witwatersrand; Associate Fellow at the Global Institute for Strategic Research in Qatar; Associate Researcher at the German government’s Institute for Development and Sustainability (IDOS); Visiting Professor at Kenya’s Riara University. Her primary research is focused on how resilient and inclusive social contracts are forged through peace and political settlement processes in transitional settings and builds upon a multi-country research and policy dialogue project that she directed between 2015 and 2018. Dr. Dr. McCandless co-founded and is a virtual collections editor of the internationally peer reviewed Journal of Peacebuilding and Development, and regularly collaborates with the United Nations and other international and civil society organizations, conducting research and evaluation, and facilitating strategic, policy-relevant processes and training. Her bridging of scholarship, policy and practice allows her to offer real-world orientation to her scholarly work and apply robust methods and a wide knowledge of literature and evidence to her policy and practice.
Keith Krause is Professor of International Relations at the Graduate Institute, Geneva, and Director of its Centre on Conflict, Development and Peacebuilding (CCDP).
Dr. Steven Wright is Associate Professor of International Relations and Associate Dean for Student Affairs at Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences. He previously served as Associate Dean and Head of the Department of International Affairs at Qatar University.
Dr. Veronica Bermudez Benito is Senior Research Director of the Energy Center at the Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI) where she leads the efforts in research, technology development, and innovation for the Energy Transition department. She has a PhD in Physics from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and holds several international awards for her research activity. Dr. Bermudez is Associate Editor of the Journal of Renewable and Sustainable Energy and acts as an independent expert for several international funding agencies, including the European Commission and European National funding bodies.
